Nights are the harder half of this job out here. The lanes towards Cottered, Layston and Hare Street have no lighting and nowhere to stand, and the A10 never quietens enough to make standing beside it sensible. We bring our own light, park the van where it does the most good, and charge what the same job would cost at two in the afternoon.

No. The figure is the same at two in the morning on Christmas Day as on a Tuesday afternoon. Pricing the night higher would only push people into driving on a damaged tyre until morning, which reliably costs them more than the callout would.
Not at all. We bring proper work lamps, which is what makes the night job the same as the day job. Inspecting the inside of a casing by torchlight is how things get missed, and it is not how we work on a lane at Westmill or anywhere else.
If the vehicle is safely parked in a yard and is not needed early, waiting costs you nothing and we will say so honestly. If you are stopped on the A10, or you have to be moving at five, calling now is both safer and usually cheaper in the end.
