Fitting a replacement correctly involves rather more than getting the size right.
Then there are staggered fitments, where the rear tyres are wider than the fronts. That is common on the quicker saloons and estates using the A41, and it means a tyre cannot be moved from one axle to the other to get you going. It also means an emergency replacement has to match the correct end of the car, which is why we ask which corner has failed before anybody sets off.
Give us the vehicle, the corner and the sidewall code, and the right tyre travels out on the van.
The gap between "needs replacing" and "needs replacing now" is usually a journey you cannot move. A run on the A41 on a tyre that is already down to the markers is not a risk worth taking. The wheel comes off in Aldbury, not on a ramp in Aylesbury. Nothing is towed out of Wilstone or New Mill; the work finishes there.

Tring has a very mixed vehicle population: town cars in the Victorian grid near the centre, working vehicles out on the Lower Icknield Way, and quicker machinery coming off the A41. That last group often carries directional patterns, asymmetric tread or different sizes front and rear. Getting a replacement right means knowing which corner and which code before anybody sets off, and that is a thirty second conversation on the phone.
A rear driven saloon needed one rear tyre, wider than the fronts by a good margin. Bringing the front size out would have been useless to everybody. The corner was confirmed on the phone, and the correct rear arrived first time.
A car at Aldbury had a tyre fitted elsewhere against its direction of rotation, which the owner had noticed as extra noise in the wet. It was turned on the rim, rebalanced and refitted the right way round while we were there for another corner.
A close parked street near the centre left about a metre of working space. The van blocked the road side, the wheel came off, the new tyre was fitted and balanced there, and the car never left the space it was parked in.

Called at 08:30 with a flat due to a screw in the shoulder. No spare on the car. New tyre sourced and replaced on my driveway by 11:15. What more could I ask for.
Super fast and efficient service. Came out and fixed my tyre on the spot, even though it was late. Fair price.
Abdul came and helped me as I was stuck on the side of the road. He came very quickly and was so friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend, great service.
There will be an arrow on the sidewall marked with the direction of rotation. Asymmetric tyres instead mark one wall as the outside and the other as the inside. Both are easy to get wrong and both are worth checking after any fitting.
Only where the sizes are identical. On a staggered fitment they are not, and swapping them is neither safe nor legal. That is why we ask which corner has failed before the van is loaded up.
Every wheel, before it goes back on the car. An unbalanced wheel shakes through the steering from about forty miles an hour and wears the new tyre unevenly the whole time it is doing it.
It should. The sensor is handled while the wheel is apart, the valve service kit is renewed where the design requires one, and the dash is checked before we leave so nothing is left illuminated for you to ignore.
Less than most people expect. A single parking space, with the van able to stand behind it, is enough. That is why the close parked streets around the centre of Tring are not the obstacle they look like.
