How the changeover is done
A seasonal swap is planned work rather than a rescue, so it runs to your diary:
- Tell us what you have. A second set already on wheels is the quickest swap. Loose tyres that have to be fitted to your existing rims take longer, and we allow for that.
- Pick the slot. Choose the day and time. Early mornings before work and weekends are both fine.
- Swap, balance, set. Wheels or tyres are changed over, balanced and pressure-set. On cars with pressure sensors, we check the warning light is clear before we leave.
- The off-season set stays with you. It comes off ready to store, and we tell you how much tread it has left.
Are winter tyres worth it around London?
For many drivers in and around London an all-season tyre is the sensible middle ground, and we will say so if that is the case for you. Winter tyres earn their place if you drive early in the morning, out on rural roads, or simply want more grip on cold, wet tarmac: the compound stays softer below about 7°C, which is where a summer tyre starts to harden. Storing the set that comes off
Tyres keep best somewhere cool, dry and dark, away from boilers, direct sunlight and electric motors. Tyres on rims can be stacked flat or hung up; loose tyres are best stood upright and turned now and then. Bagging them keeps the garage clean and the rubber out of the light.
Pressure sensors and a second set of wheels
If your car has a tyre pressure monitoring system and the second set of wheels has no sensors, the warning light will come on after the swap. The clean fix is a set of sensors for those wheels, programmed to the car, which can be done during the same visit. The TPMS replacement page explains how.

A good rule of thumb is when average temperatures drop below about 7°C, typically late autumn, and swap back in spring.
It helps, but it is not essential. We can swap tyres on your existing wheels or fit a pre-mounted seasonal set, whichever you have.
The set that comes off is left with you to keep at home, in a garage, shed or loft. If storage is a problem for you, raise it when you book and we will talk through the options.
Only if the second set has no sensors, or has sensors the car has not learnt. We check before we leave, and can fit and programme sensors for the second set if needed.
A few days ahead gives you the widest choice of slots. At shorter notice we will still fit you in where we can.
