Yes. Wheel nuts are a clamping system rather than a set of things to be made tight. Too little and the wheel works against the hub until the studs fatigue. Too much and a stud is stretched past the point it springs back from, so it is already failing while looking perfectly normal from outside.

It does no harm and we would not talk anybody out of it, though the check that counts is the one we do before leaving, with the car on the ground. If you have ever had a wheel fitted somewhere that used a gun and nothing else, having the torque verified afterwards is genuinely worth the trouble.
We are working, not taking bookings. The phone is answered at three in the morning by somebody who can send a van, and nights across EC1V and EC1Y are ordinary shifts here rather than an exception. Typical arrival is 30 to 60 minutes once we know where the car is standing.
