There are two different roadside dangers and the advice for one is the opposite of the advice for the other. On a residential street at two in the morning, with nothing moving, the risk is not traffic. It is being a person standing alone beside a stationary car, and there the car is the safest thing you have.

Leave the hazards going so we can find you. Tell us the colour and make of the car and roughly where it is parked, and we ring when we are two minutes away so nobody opens a door to a stranger.

Night calls here come mostly from residential streets rather than main roads: the terraces off Garratt Lane, the roads through Southfields, the streets bordering Wandsworth Common. For most of it, yes. The car has to be still while the wheel is off the ground, so there is a short spell where we ask you to step out, and we pick the safest moment for that.
Say so when you ring, and leave us the registration and where it is parked. Plenty of night jobs are done with the owner asleep indoors and the car on a permit bay. We knock once the wheel is torqued.
