The word people use on the phone is broken, and it covers everything from a split sidewall to a tyre that simply no longer looks right.
Three things end a tyre outright. A bulge, meaning the casing cords have parted and only rubber is holding the air in. A cut or split deep enough to reach the belts or the plies beneath them. And separation, where the tread begins parting company with the casing, usually felt as a vibration long before it becomes visible.
Run-flats add a complication that matters locally, since a lot of cars around Sunninghill and Sunningdale have them. Their reinforced sidewalls let you carry on with no pressure at all, and that is precisely the trouble: by the time anybody looks, the sidewall has often cooked itself and the tyre is scrap when it started out as a simple nail.
A cut from road debris is the one that catches out careful drivers. Where it is beyond repair, the replacement goes on at the car in North Ascot, balanced, pressures set, old tyre taken away. Valve in Cheapside, balance in Winkfield, pressures before we go. The wheel comes off in Sunninghill, not on a ramp in Egham.

Ascot's tyre damage arrives from two directions: impacts on the unlit lanes and B roads, and age on cars that spend most of the year parked up. Neither shows itself as a puncture. If something looks wrong, or the car has felt different since a hard knock out towards Winkfield, we will break the tyre down at your address and tell you which it is.
A driver clipped a broken edge in the dark and thought nothing more of it. A fortnight later the sidewall carried a lump the size of a thumb. The cords had gone at the moment of impact; the bulge itself simply took a while to show up.
A car near Sunningdale had run on a deflated run-flat well past the distance its maker allows. Off the rim it showed melted liner and crumbled sidewall reinforcement, which is exactly what that sort of mileage does to a tyre built that way.
A car in Cheapside used a few times a month had tread depth close to new and date codes twelve years old. The sidewalls were hard and finely cracked all over. All four were replaced on age rather than on anything the gauge showed.

Called at 08:30 with a flat due to a screw in the shoulder. No spare on the car. New tyre sourced and replaced on my driveway by 11:15. What more could I ask for.
Was stuck on the M40. They came very quick and gave me a very good price, arriving within 25 minutes. Very glad I came across this company.
Great service, fast and available. My tyre is not one an ordinary garage has in stock, but they just went to get the tyre and replaced it on a Sunday. Recommend.
That the internal cords have snapped, almost always from an impact. The pressure is being held by rubber alone at that point. It cannot be repaired and should not be driven on, because a bulge fails suddenly and usually at speed.
Sometimes, if you stopped promptly and it has not run far without pressure. Most makers will not sanction a repair once a run-flat has been driven deflated, and the evidence is generally visible on the inner surface once it comes off the rim.
It can be a balance problem, but it can equally be internal separation or a flat spot from standing. Both are found by breaking the tyre down and inspecting it. A vibration that appeared right after an impact deserves a proper look.
There is a four digit number inside an oval on the sidewall. It gives a week followed by a year, so 2419 was built in June 2019. Anything approaching ten years is on borrowed time regardless of how much tread remains on it.
Surface scuffing that has only taken the lettering off is usually cosmetic. Once the rubber is gouged, or the weave of the cords is showing through, the tyre has lost strength exactly where it flexes most, and that means replacement.
