That is a completely different thing from a hard shoulder or a motorway verge, where we will not work at all. Tell us on the call what the car is sitting on and we will say straight away whether it suits.
If the car has not left the motorway yet, neither of us. That call is to the police or National Highways, and nothing else happens until they have made the scene safe. Once you are off and settled somewhere, ring us first. We can often tell you in a minute whether the car needs towing at all.
We ask, and it is almost never a problem. Most sites are used to it and simply want the van somewhere sensible and the old tyre gone with us afterwards. If a particular one says no, the answer is to move the car to the far end of the car park or to a nearby address, not to argue about it.
The jack sinks, and a car coming off a jack is a great deal worse than a flat tyre. If the ground is firm and well clear of the traffic we can work there. If it is soft, we need the car on tarmac instead, which usually means the nearest car park or a short tow. We sort that out before setting off.
We tell you on the phone rather than on arrival. Low headroom decks, tight underground bays and anywhere the van cannot get alongside the car are the usual ones. The fix is normally moving the car a short distance rather than abandoning the job, and we will help you work out where to put it.
