Mobile tyre replacement across the M4 Corridor

So we start with what the week actually looks like rather than with a price list. Constant motorway work rewards a touring tyre with a strong wet grip grade and a load rating that matches the plate on your door pillar, because a car loaded for a run west is a heavier car than the cheapest tyre was designed around. If half your miles are town miles, that money is better spent on a hard wearing mid range tyre and an honest conversation about which pair goes on the rear.

We fit at the house, at work, or at the services if that is where the car has ended up, and never on the carriageway itself. Both tyres on an axle are matched for construction and rating, every wheel is balanced beside the car, the pressures are set and the old tyres leave with us. Reading is at the far end of our patch, so you get a real arrival time on the call rather than a standard one.

If you are on the motorway right now

Leave at the next exit if the car still moves safely. If it does not, ring 999, or National Highways on 0300 123 5000, before you ring us. On a smart motorway there is often no hard shoulder, only emergency areas, and only they can close a lane. Get everyone out through the nearside doors and behind the barrier, and do not sit in the car. We are not permitted to work on a live carriageway or a hard shoulder and we will not pretend otherwise. We come to you once you are at a service area, on a slip road, at the next junction, in a lay-by off the carriageway, or at home after recovery.

Local knowledge across the M4 Corridor

The M4 is not one road as far as tyre wear goes. The Reading end is sustained high speed running that ages rubber and eats shoulders, while the same car doing short A4 hops wears its edges and keeps its middle, so we ask which one you do before we quote. We fit at the house, at work or at the services, and never on the motorway itself: if a tyre fails out there, ring 999 or National Highways on 0300 123 5000 and get behind the barrier before you ring us.

Tyres call-outs we handle in the M4 Corridor

Two winters of Reading commuting

A car doing Reading to London and back five days a week was through a budget set every eighteen months. A touring tyre with a better wet grade and the correct load rating has lasted far longer, and the drop in noise was obvious.

Speed rating dropped to save money

A saloon arrived on tyres rated below what the handbook asks for, fitted elsewhere because they were cheaper. At sustained motorway speed that rating is not a formality, so we matched the original specification across the axle and explained the difference.

A4 miles disguised as motorway miles

A driver assumed she needed a motorway tyre because she lives beside the M4. Almost all her mileage turned out to be short A4 runs and parking, which wears the edges instead, so a hard wearing mid range tyre was the honest answer.

Used this company in 2022 and again in 2024. Fantastic. Very competitive pricing, great communication, and they replaced my tyres on my front drive. Hands down better than my local garage.

I clipped the kerb when parking, damaging the wall of my tyre. I contacted Fast Tyre at 21:37 and by 23:40 I had a new tyre fitted. Excellent service and both boys were friendly and efficient.

Tyres in the M4 Corridor, FAQs

Not faster, but differently. Steady motorway speed puts heat through the tyre for an hour at a time, which ages the rubber and wears the shoulders as the car leans through long curves. Town driving wears the edges through low speed steering instead. A motorway car often has plenty of tread left in the middle when the shoulders are finished, so measure across the width rather than down the centre.

It does. A tyre that spends its time stopping and starting on the A4 wants even wear and good wet braking at ordinary speeds, not the heat resistance you pay for in a high speed touring tyre. Tell us roughly how the week splits and we will put two options side by side rather than push you at the top of the range.

Often yes, and for one reason above the others: wet braking. The gap between the best and worst wet grip grades is several car lengths at motorway speed, and that is distance you would want back. Noise is the second thing you notice on a long westbound run. Beyond those two, the premium is mostly preference.

Look at the rubber rather than the depth. Aged tyres show fine cracking in the bottom of the grooves and along the sidewall, and the surface feels hard rather than slightly tacky. The date code on the sidewall gives the week and year of manufacture. A tyre with plenty of tread that has hardened is still one we would want to change.

More than most people expect. Aquaplaning happens when the tread cannot clear water out from under the tyre fast enough, and that comes down to groove depth and to the wet grip grade on the label. A tyre sitting near the legal 1.6mm limit shifts far less water than a new one, which is why we suggest replacing nearer 3mm on a car doing sustained motorway miles.
