When a tyre has to be replaced rather than repaired
Four things end the argument, and none of them is about money. Damage to the sidewall or shoulder, because that area flexes too hard for any patch to hold. A bulge, which is the casing cords already broken. Tread at or below the 1.6mm legal limit. And any tyre that has been driven on flat, because the inside has been ground up whether it looks it or not.
If it is none of those and the damage sits in the central three quarters of the tread, it is very probably a repair, and a repair costs a fraction of a tyre. We check before quoting, and we tell you which one you are looking at. There is no charge for it turning out to be the cheaper answer.
One tyre, a pair, or all four
Replacing in pairs across an axle is the normal advice, because two very different tread depths on the same axle brake unevenly. Front and rear differing is fine and completely usual.
What we will not do is tell you four need doing when two are good. We measure what is on the car first, and if you have two tyres with real life left in them, we will say so and fit the pair that actually needs it.
How it works
We check whether it really needs it
Sidewall damage, a bulge, tread at 1.6mm or a tyre run flat all end the argument. Anything else and it may well be a repair instead.
Matched to the plate
Size, load index and speed rating taken from the door shut, not guessed from the size alone. The rating is what carries the weight.
Swapped where it stands
Off, on, balanced, pressures set, old one taken away. One tyre or a full set, in the same visit.
Tyre Replacement Near Me: frequently asked
Typically 30 to 60 minutes to reach you across London and the nearer Home Counties, then about 20 to 30 minutes on site including balancing.
Almost never. Pairs across an axle is the sensible unit. We measure the tread on all four before quoting and tell you honestly which need doing now.
Usually, yes. Give us the size off the sidewall or the registration and we will bring the same or an equivalent. If we would be putting a mismatched pair on one axle, we will flag it.
It leaves with us and is recycled through a licensed route. That is part of the price, not an extra at the end.
