What a budget tyre actually gives up
A budget tyre that is the right size and rating for the car, fitted correctly and inflated properly, is a legal and safe tyre. It is not a compromise on legality. What it gives up is measurable in two places on the EU label: wet braking, graded from A downwards, and how long the tread lasts.
The gap between an A and an E on wet grip is roughly a couple of car lengths in an emergency stop from motorway speed. Whether that is worth the difference is a real decision, and it depends on the car, the mileage and the driving. We will give you the grades and let you make it.
Where we would spend and where we would not
If the budget only stretches to one pair, put it on the driven axle and put the better tyre there. If the car does short urban miles and rarely sees a motorway, the premium buys less than the label suggests. If it is a heavy car, a fast one, or one that carries a family up a motorway every week, wet grip is the wrong place to save.
We would rather fit two good tyres now and see you again in six months than sell four cheap ones today.
How it works
One figure, not a headline
The price covers the tyre, the fitting, the balancing, the valve and disposal. Nothing is added when we arrive.
Told what you are giving up
Budget tyres are legal and safe. What changes is wet braking and tread life, both graded on the EU label. You get the grades before you choose.
Spent where it counts
If the budget stretches to one pair, we put the better tyre on the driven axle and say so, rather than selling you four of the cheapest.
Cheap Tyres Near Me: frequently asked
A budget tyre meeting UK regulations, correctly sized and rated, and properly fitted and inflated, is legal and safe. The difference from a premium is wet braking distance and tread life, both graded on the EU label.
No. The price covers the tyres, the fitting, balancing, valves and taking the old ones away, whatever tier you choose and whatever time you call.
Across an axle we would advise against it, because the braking becomes uneven. Front and rear differing is normal.
No. We supply new only. Part-worns are separately regulated and we would rather sell you a new budget tyre than a used unknown.
