Tyre repair near me, open now and on Sundays

Most searches for a tyre repair near you happen at the wrong moment: a Sunday afternoon, after the tyre centre has shut, or first thing on a bank holiday when the car will not move off the drive. A shop with a front door has opening hours. A van does not, so the answer to "is anywhere open now" is yes, and it comes to you rather than the other way round.

Nights, weekends and bank holidays cost exactly the same as a Tuesday morning. There is no call-out premium for the inconvenient hours, and nobody needs to book a slot a day ahead. If the tyre went down overnight and you need the car for the school run or an early shift, ring when you find it.

Repair, replace or emergency: which one do you need?

"Tyre repair" covers several different jobs, and knowing which one you have saves time on the call. This is how we sort them before we set off:

  • A nail or screw in the middle of the tread. The classic repairable puncture. Leave it in, it is partly sealing the hole. This is a mobile puncture repair at your car, and our guide to what to do about a nail in a tyre covers the first ten minutes.
  • A tyre that keeps going down every few days. Usually a small object in the tread, a tired valve or corrosion where the tyre seals on an alloy rim. We find which on the spot; see what causes a slow puncture, and a perished valve is swapped through tyre valve replacement.
  • Damage on the shoulder or sidewall, a cut or a bulge. Not repairable under any standard, however small it looks. A lump or bulge from the structure failing also makes the tyre illegal to use on the road. That is a replacement tyre fitted where the car is, and the sidewall damage guide explains why.
  • Stranded with a flat at night or by the roadside. Same fitter, same van, treated as urgent: our 24 hour emergency tyre call-out.
  • A run-flat that has been driven deflated. Often not repairable, because the drive can damage the sidewall inside without any outward sign. The run-flat tyres explainer sets out what the makers allow.
  • No locking wheel nut key. Not a reason to wait for a garage. We remove it at the car with locking wheel nut removal, then carry on with the repair.
  • Tyre pressure warning light on but no obvious flat. Check the pressures first. If one tyre is low, it is a puncture until proven otherwise; if they are all fine, it may be a sensor, covered on our TPMS sensor replacement page.

Can your tyre be repaired?

Car tyre repairs in the UK are carried out to British Standard BS AU 159, and it gives a clear yes or no. Broadly, a repair is allowed when the hole is in the central three quarters of the tread width, the injury is no wider than about 6mm, and the inside of the tyre shows no damage from being driven on while flat. Anything in the outer shoulders or the sidewall is a replacement.

The last of those conditions is the one you control. A tyre that was stopped as soon as it went soft is usually still a candidate; one that was driven a mile to find a garage often is not, because the sidewall has been crushed and heated from the inside. We can only judge that with the tyre off the rim, which is why we never fix a car tyre with a plug pushed in from outside. The full rules, with a diagram of the repair zone, are on the puncture repair service page.

Flat tyre right now? Read this before you ring

Do not drive it to a tyre shop. Apart from wrecking a tyre that could have been saved, the law requires every tyre on the road to be inflated to a level fit for the use the car is being put to, and a flat one plainly is not. Our guide on whether it is safe to drive on a flat tyre goes through the few exceptions, such as rolling slowly off a live road to somewhere safe.

If you are on a motorway hard shoulder, a slip road or any live carriageway, we cannot work there. Get behind the barrier and call 999 or National Highways on 0300 123 5000 first. Once the car has been moved off the motorway, to services or a side road, we come and fit or repair the tyre.

Everywhere else, these details make the call quick and the visit a one-trip job:

  • Where the car is: a postcode, a street name or the car park and level
  • The registration, or the size printed on the tyre sidewall, such as 205/55 R16 91V
  • Where the damage is: middle of the tread, near the edge or on the side wall
  • Whether you have the locking wheel nut key, and whether the car has a spare or a sealant kit
  • A photo on WhatsApp if you can take one safely; it lets us judge repair or replace before we leave

If you have already used an inflation kit, say so: the sealant has to be cleaned out before a permanent repair, and it is worth us knowing in advance. No spare at all is a normal call for us; our note on what to do with no spare tyre explains the options, and what to do while you wait for the fitter covers the gap between the call and the van arriving.

Where we come out to

We run from our North London base in N13 and cover every London borough and the counties around it. The areas we reach most often include:

Not on the list? Give us the postcode on the call and we will confirm, or browse every town and area we cover.

What a tyre repair costs

We do not publish a price list, because the honest figure depends on what the tyre turns out to need. What we do is quote on the phone before anyone sets off: the repair price, and the price of a replacement in your size in case the inspection says no. There are no hidden extras added at the car and no out-of-hours surcharge, so the number you hear at 2am on a Sunday is the number you pay. If you would rather simply have new tyres fitted at home, that is our mobile tyre fitting service.

How it works

Stop and stay put

Park somewhere safe and leave it. Every extra mile on a soft tyre chews the inside of the sidewall, and that is the damage that turns a repair into a replacement.

One call, one figure

Tell us where the car is, the registration and where the damage is. You get an arrival time and a quote for both outcomes, repair or new tyre, before the van moves.

Fixed where it stands

Wheel off, tyre off the rim, inside inspected. Repaired and balanced if it passes, a new tyre fitted the same day if it does not. The work itself takes about 20 to 30 minutes on site.

Tyre Repair Near Me: frequently asked

It is quoted on the phone before anyone sets off, so you know the figure before you agree to anything. There are no hidden extras, and nights, weekends and bank holidays cost the same as a weekday. We also give you the price of a replacement in your size, in case the inspection shows the tyre cannot be repaired.

The same quote-first approach applies. What decides the final bill is whether the flat is repairable, which depends on where the damage is and whether the tyre was driven on while flat. Stopping straight away gives you the best chance of the repair rather than a new tyre.

Yes. We take calls and send fitters 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including Sundays and bank holidays. Because we come to the car, it does not matter that the local tyre centre has closed for the day.

Most high street tyre centres, Halfords included, offer puncture repair; check with the branch for opening times and whether you need to book. Any reputable fitter works to the same British Standard, BS AU 159. If you need it done tonight or on a Sunday without driving anywhere, we answer at any hour and usually reach you within 30 to 60 minutes.

You should not. A flat tyre is not inflated to a level fit for use, which the Construction and Use Regulations require, and driving on it damages the sidewall from the inside, usually ending any chance of a repair. Move only as far as you need to get off a live road safely, then stop and call.

Some tyre centres take walk-ins, but booked customers normally go first and you may wait or be asked to come back. With us there is nothing to turn up to: you ring, get an arrival time, and the fitter comes to the car.

Many tyre centres offer a free visual check if you drive in. When we are at your car for a repair, we look over the other tyres while we are there and tell you what we find. If you want a check as a visit on its own, ask on the call and we will tell you the cost before we come.

A fitter typically arrives 30 to 60 minutes after your call. Once at the car, a repair takes about 20 to 30 minutes, including taking the tyre off the rim, inspecting the inside, repairing it and balancing the wheel. A replacement takes about the same.

Yes. We work on cars, SUVs, 4x4s, electric cars and vans. We do not work on motorbikes, caravans, trailers or lorries.

Not on a live carriageway, hard shoulder or slip road. Get behind the barrier and call 999 or National Highways on 0300 123 5000. Once the car has been moved off the motorway to somewhere safe, we come and repair or replace the tyre.
