There is a size limit on what can be repaired, and it is smaller than most people assume. For an ordinary car tyre the injury has to be no more than about six millimetres across once it has been cleaned out, which is roughly the diameter of a pencil. A nail or a screw is comfortably inside that. A bolt, a large screw with a coarse thread, or anything that has been allowed to work about in the hole and enlarge it usually is not.
That last part matters more than the object itself. A tyre driven for a week with a screw in it does not have a screw sized hole any more, because the movement has chewed the injury bigger every mile.
