24-Hour Tyre Repair in the A1(M) Corridor
The A1(M) at three in the morning is a different road.
Mobile 24-hour tyre repair across the A1(M) Corridor
The repair itself does not change with the hour. The van that comes out at four in the morning carries the same stock, the same balancer and the same qualified fitter, and the tyre still leaves the wheel so the inner liner can be looked at before anything is decided. What changes is the setting: we bring our own lighting rather than relying on headlights, and we put the van between the working side of the car and anything passing.
What we will not do overnight is what we will not do at noon. Nobody should be working beside a running lane, and a hard shoulder does not count as off the road. On the A1(M) it is 999, or National Highways on 0300 123 5000, then everybody out of the car on the nearside and behind the barrier, however empty the road looks. We come out once the car has reached the services, a road beyond the junction, or a Welwyn Garden City address after recovery.
Leave at the next exit if the car still moves safely. If it does not, ring 999, or National Highways on 0300 123 5000, before you ring us. On a smart motorway there is often no hard shoulder, only emergency areas, and only they can close a lane. Get everyone out through the nearside doors and behind the barrier, and do not sit in the car. We are not permitted to work on a live carriageway or a hard shoulder and we will not pretend otherwise. We come to you once you are at a service area, on a slip road, at the next junction, in a lay-by off the carriageway, or at home after recovery.

Local knowledge across the A1(M) Corridor
Overnight is when this corridor is least forgiving: fewer vehicles, faster ones, more heavy traffic, and a stopped car nobody sees until late. The repair we do at four in the morning in Welwyn Garden City is the same repair we would do at four in the afternoon, carried out under our own lighting with the van shielding the working side of the car. The difference is entirely in getting you somewhere safe first.
24-Hour Tyre Repair call-outs we handle in the A1(M) Corridor
A 4am repair in Welwyn Garden City
A slow puncture spotted the evening before had gone flat overnight. We came out at four, took the tyre off the rim on the drive, repaired a nail hole sitting in the central tread and balanced the wheel before the car was needed.
Empty road, heavy traffic, 3am
A driver stopped overnight thought the empty look of the road made it safe to stand by the car. Heavy traffic runs here all night and closing speeds are higher. They rang 999 and moved behind the barrier, and we met them once the car had been moved.
The A1000 as the way home
With the wheel sound again, the driver wanted the quieter road back rather than rejoining the motorway in the dark. That is a fair choice on a properly repaired tyre, and we set the pressures and checked the torque before they left.

I clipped the kerb when parking, damaging the wall of my tyre. I contacted Fast Tyre at 21:37 and by 23:40 I had a new tyre fitted. Excellent service and both boys were friendly and efficient.

24-Hour Tyre Repair in the A1(M) Corridor, FAQs
No, in some ways it makes it worse. There is less traffic but it is moving faster, a good deal of it is heavy, and a stationary car is much harder to pick out in the dark. An empty looking road is exactly when people misjudge it. Ring 999 or National Highways, get behind the barrier and stay there.
A pressure check the following day is sensible after any repair, day or night, but nothing about the hour makes it necessary. The patch is bonded to the inner liner with the wheel stripped down, and the job is finished when we leave. If the warning light comes back within a day or two, ring us and we will look again.
As a way home on a sound tyre that is your choice, and plenty of people prefer it after dark. As an escape route on a failing tyre, no. Driving further to reach a quieter road usually costs you the tyre and sometimes the wheel as well. Stop at the first safe place instead and let us come to it.
Not at all. The barrier is there for the one vehicle you did not see, and at that hour drivers are more tired and travelling faster. Everyone leaves by the passenger side and stands behind it, and nobody sits in the car waiting. It is exactly the same instruction we would give you at midday.
Possibly, if the car is right off the running lane and there is room to stand a long way clear of it. A slip road is still a live road, so it is a last choice rather than a first one. The top of the junction, a quiet side road or the services is better, and we will say on the call which we would rather.
