So the area is scraped and buffed back to clean rubber, cleaned of dust, treated, and only then does the patch go on and get rolled down properly so no air is trapped underneath.

Everything around it is straightforward: the tyre comes off the rim, the object is drawn out and the hole measured, the damage is reamed square, and the combined plug and patch goes in from the inside to BS AU 159.
