Tring's difficulty is that both escape routes from a flat tyre fail you. Lift the boot floor and look. It is either a full size wheel, a narrow space saver, or a compressor with a bottle of sealant. Knowing which of the three you have before you need it takes most of the panic out of the situation.
For a limited distance and normally no faster than 50mph, and it is meant as a get you home wheel rather than a fix. Check the sticker on it. Grip and braking are noticeably poorer, which shows up on the hills to Wigginton and Aldbury.
Grip the wheel firmly, come off the accelerator smoothly, and let the car lose speed on its own before steering gently to the left. The instinct to brake hard is the dangerous one, because the car is already out of balance.
