Yes, and mostly in a way you cannot see. Town driving scrubs the edges through constant steering. Long motorway stretches build heat through the whole casing and age the rubber more evenly. A corridor car often keeps respectable tread while the compound hardens, so we look at the date code and the condition of the surface as well as the depth.
It punishes any tyre, though not the way heat does. Repeated stop-start on the North Circular loads the shoulders and the outer edges of the tread, while the fast stretch afterwards heats the whole casing through. A tyre asked to do both wants a strong wet grade and a hard wearing mid range compound rather than a soft one.
There is no honest mileage figure, because it turns on the car, the load and how it is driven. What we can say is that a corridor car usually reaches the wear bars later than a town car and reaches the end of its rubber's useful life sooner. We would replace around three millimetres rather than waiting for the legal 1.6mm.
Usually not. A lit warning most often means one tyre has lost pressure, and the cause may be a repairable puncture or simply a leaking valve. It can also be the sensor itself, which on a car first used from 2012 is an MOT failure in its own right. We check the pressures and the tyre before recommending anything.
