The middle number on your sidewall is the profile, and it is the height of the sidewall given as a percentage of the tyre's width. A 55 is a tall, soft-riding tyre. A 35 is a thin band of rubber holding an expensive alloy a short distance off the road surface. Everything people like and dislike about low-profile tyres comes out of that one number.
A tall sidewall absorbs things. A drain lip, a sunken cover, the sharp edge of a kerb taken at an angle: a deep sidewall deflects and comes back. A shallow one runs out of travel and the rim arrives at the obstacle instead, which is how alloys get buckled and how a casing gets pinched between the kerb and the wheel. Against that, a low profile steers more sharply and looks the way the car was styled to look.
On a car that spends its life on residential streets, parked tight and shuffled about slowly, that is a real decision rather than a styling one. There is no shame in going back to the taller size the car was originally sold with.
