Ascot's roads fall into two awkward categories. On a race day the A329 and the A330 are solid, and a car with a flat becomes an obstacle in a queue that cannot get round it.
What to do differs accordingly. In traffic, stay put only until you can get the car out of the running lane, then take a gateway, a lay-by or a side road and let the queue go past. On a dark stretch of the B3020, or the roads out towards Winkfield, get well left, hazards on, everyone out on the nearside and up onto the verge away from the carriageway.
One thing applies wherever you are. Do not keep driving in the hope of finding somewhere better lit. A flat tyre destroys itself in yards and takes the rim with it shortly afterwards.
The compressor kit in the boot buys you time and nothing else. A fitter coming to the car is the version that ends the problem: wheel off on the A330, a proper look at the real damage, a repair to standard if it qualifies, a replacement from the van if it does not. We are out on the B3020 at 2am and in Cheapside at 2pm. The Winkfield phone and the Sunninghill phone ring the same fitter, any hour.

Ascot is fast open road for most of the year and gridlock for a few weeks of it, and a flat tyre is awkward in both conditions. The priority does not change: get the car out of the traffic stream, get the people away from it. We come out to the heath roads, the villages and the racecourse approaches at any hour of the night.
A car lost a tyre on London Road with traffic backed up in both directions. The driver got it into a side turning before stopping, which meant the fitting was done calmly rather than in a live lane with several hundred cars waiting behind.
A modern estate near Sunningdale carried a sealant canister and nothing else. The damage was a split rather than a puncture, so the foam would have achieved nothing but mess. The tyre was replaced where the car had come to a halt.
The obvious place to pull in was leaf mould over soft ground after a wet week. The car went a few yards further to a gravel entrance instead. Where you stop decides whether a jack can be used safely at all, and it is worth the extra yards.

Honestly wish I could give more than 5 stars! Last night after leaving Wembley we got a flat tyre, stranded 2 hours from home, and these guys got us back up and running. 10/10 service from start to finish, even at 1am!
Really great service to repair a flat tyre. Easy to coordinate via WhatsApp, arrived promptly, good communication and a fair price.
I used their service to fix a punctured tyre. They arrived within 45 minutes and replaced my tyre. Highly recommend for urgent tyre service.
Get it out of the running lane before anything else, even if that means a short distance on the tyre. A side road, a gateway or a car park entrance will do. Once you are clear of the queue there is no hurry and no audience watching.
We would not. There is no lighting, the verges are soft and traffic across the heath moves quickly with poor sight lines. Stand well clear of the vehicle and wait rather than kneel down beside it in the dark with your back to the road.
Only for a small puncture in the tread, and only for a short distance at reduced speed. It does nothing for a split, a sidewall injury or a tyre off the bead, and it makes a proper repair harder and messier afterwards.
The road name plus the last landmark you passed is usually plenty. Ascot's roads are well signposted and familiar to us. A dropped pin from your phone is quicker still if you have signal where you have stopped.
No, and please do not drive it any further than you have to. What helps is the car sitting as far left as the ground allows with the hazards going, and everybody standing away from the road side of the vehicle.
