Emergency Tyre Repair & Replacement, 24/7
For emergency tyre repair, call 07717 389637 and a fitter typically reaches you within 30 to 60 minutes, at any hour, then repairs the tyre to BS AU 159 if the damage allows or fits a new one from the van if it does not. We cover London and the surrounding counties 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and a 3am call-out costs the same as one at lunchtime.
What's included
- Phone answered and vans sent out 24 hours a day, every day of the year, bank holidays included
- A repair-or-replace decision made at the car, with the damage explained to you before any work starts
- Emergency puncture repair for nails and screws in the central tread, done from the inside to BS AU 159
- Blowouts, sidewall cuts, bulges and tyres run flat replaced on the same visit, tyres fitted the same day
- Wheel balanced on the van before it goes back on the car
- Damaged valves and locking wheel nuts with no key dealt with while we are there
- Cars, SUVs, 4x4s, EVs and vans, including tyres you have already bought online
- Old tyre taken away for licensed recycling, card or contactless payment at the car
Why choose Fast Tyre for emergency tyre repair and replacement
Emergency tyre repair is mostly about what happens in the first ten minutes after the tyre goes, not the repair itself. Drive on a flat to reach a brighter street and a repairable puncture becomes a new tyre; stop in the wrong place and you are standing next to traffic. We talk you through the safe part on the phone, then bring the tyre and the tools to finish the job where the car is, so there is no tow, no waiting for a garage to open and no driving on a damaged tyre to reach one. The fitter is fully insured and every new tyre carries a 2-year warranty.
What happens from your call to the car moving again
An emergency call-out runs in the same order every time, day or night:
- Get safe, then call. Off the road and away from traffic first. If you are on a motorway, ring 999 or National Highways on 0300 123 5000 before you ring us.
- Tell us three things. Where the car is, what you can see on the tyre, and the size printed on its sidewall or your registration. You get a quote on that call, before anyone sets off.
- A fitter on the way. Arrival is typically 30 to 60 minutes. Wait somewhere away from traffic and keep your phone on so the fitter can find you.
- Repaired or replaced on the spot. Once the fitter is with you the job itself takes about 20 to 30 minutes: repair or new tyre, balance, pressures set, wheel nuts tightened, and you drive away.
Emergency tyre repair at the roadside: repair or replace?
A puncture can be repaired only if it sits in the central three quarters of the tread and the hole is small, up to 6mm across on a car tyre. That is the zone set by BS AU 159, the British Standard for tyre repairs, and it is why the fitter takes the tyre off the rim: a proper repair is a plug and patch fitted from the inside, not a string pushed in from outside. A nail or screw in the middle of the tread is the classic repairable job, and our puncture repair service covers it in more detail. Run-flat tyres follow their own rules, set out in run-flat tyres explained.
Some damage rules a repair out completely. A hole in the shoulder or sidewall, a cut that reaches the cords, a bulge, or a tyre that has blown out cannot be made safe, and nor can one that has been driven flat, which leaves rubber dust inside the casing and weakens the sidewall from within (more on that in whether it is safe to drive on a flat). In those cases a replacement goes on there and then. If you want to understand what you are looking at before you call, our guides to sidewall damage and what to do after a blowout show the difference.
Flat tyre on a motorway or smart motorway: safety first
We never work on a live carriageway, a motorway hard shoulder or a slip road, and nobody should. National Highways' own advice is to go left, get safe and get help, and it is explicit that you should not attempt repairs on the motorway. In practice that means:
- If you can, get into an emergency area, lay-by or onto the hard shoulder, as far left as possible, with hazard lights on.
- Get out on the side away from traffic and wait behind the barrier if it is safe to do so. Do not put out a warning triangle on a motorway.
- On a stretch with no hard shoulder, or if you cannot get out safely, stay in the car with your seatbelt on and hazards on, and call 999.
- Otherwise call National Highways on 0300 123 5000 or use the emergency phone. Tell them the motorway, your direction of travel and the last junction you passed.
Once the car has been taken off the motorway to services, a lay-by on a side road or another safe place, ring us and we fit the tyre there. Our guide to a flat on a smart motorway with no hard shoulder goes step by step, and a flat at motorway services covers the most common place we meet drivers afterwards.
24 hour tyre repair: nights, weekends and bank holidays
There is no late night tyre shop to drive to, and with a flat you should not be driving anyway. The van is the workshop: it carries tyres, a tyre changer and a balancer, so a repair at 2am is done to the same standard as one at 2pm. Christmas Day, New Year and bank holiday weekends are covered on the same basis as a weekday, with no out-of-hours surcharge.
At night, wait somewhere lit and warm if you can, keep your phone charged, and leave hazard lights on if the car is somewhere other drivers might not expect it. If the car is in a bay that becomes restricted in the morning, mention it on the call. There is more on staying safe while you wait in our night-time breakdown guide.
What to tell us on the call
Most of the time saved on an emergency call-out is saved on the phone. Give us a postcode or road name and the direction you were heading, or send a location pin on WhatsApp; if you are on a road without a clear address, our guide on describing where you have broken down helps. Then tell us what you can see: a nail in the tread, a tear in the sidewall, a tyre off the rim, two flats at once, or only a warning light. The tyre size is the line of numbers on the sidewall, such as 205/55 R16; if you cannot read it, the registration is enough.
Also say if the car has locking wheel nuts and you cannot find the key, if it is an EV or a van, or if you already have a tyre you want fitted. A missing key is a routine job for our locking wheel nut removal kit, and a pressure warning that came on with the flat may need a tyre pressure sensor or a new valve rather than a tyre.
When the spare, the kit or breakdown cover will not get you moving
Plenty of cars now come with no spare at all, only a sealant kit, and many EVs fall into that group. A space saver gets you home at reduced speed but is not meant to stay on the car. A sealant kit can get a small tread puncture home, but it will not seal a sidewall cut or a blowout, and the sealant has to be cleaned out before a tyre can be properly repaired. If any of that applies, a full-size tyre fitted where the car sits is usually quicker than any workaround; see no spare tyre: what to do.
Breakdown cover is worth having, but a patrol is generally there to get you moving or recover the car, and it will not always carry your exact tyre. The trade-offs are set out in breakdown cover vs a mobile tyre fitter. If two tyres are down at once, which happens after a deep pothole or a kerb strike, tell us so we load both: two flat tyres at once.
Where our emergency call-out reaches
Emergency call-outs go out from our North London base to every part of London and the surrounding counties, around the clock, and arrival is typically 30 to 60 minutes wherever you are. If the tyre is not an emergency, you can also book tyres fitted at home or work, arrange same-day tyre fitting, or find local help through our tyre repair near me and tyre replacement near me pages. Van drivers can see how we handle van tyres.
Emergency Tyre Repair and Replacement, frequently asked questions
Yes. A mobile fitter comes to wherever the car is safely stopped, at home, at work, in a car park or at the roadside, and either repairs the tyre or fits a new one from the van. We do this 24 hours a day, every day of the year, across London and the surrounding counties.
It depends where you are. On a motorway or any fast road where you cannot get well clear of traffic, call 999 or National Highways on 0300 123 5000 first. Anywhere you are safely stopped, call us on 07717 389637 and a fitter comes to you, typically within 30 to 60 minutes.
Leave the car where it is and do not drive it to a garage, because even a short distance on a flat can ruin a tyre that could have been repaired. Call us with the tyre size or registration and we repair or replace it on your drive or in the street outside.
If you have breakdown cover with the AA or another provider, you can call them for a flat. A patrol will usually fit your spare or recover the car, but may not carry a replacement in your size. If you have no usable spare, or want the tyre properly repaired or replaced where the car is, a mobile tyre fitter is the direct route.
Where the car is. We fit tyres the same day, at any hour, from stock carried on the van, and we will also fit tyres you have bought online. Give us the size on the call so the right tyre is loaded.
Arrival is typically 30 to 60 minutes from your call. Once the fitter is with the car, a repair or a new tyre usually takes 20 to 30 minutes, including balancing and setting the pressures.
The cost depends on whether the tyre can be repaired and, if not, which tyre you need, so it is quoted on the phone before anyone sets off. There are no hidden extras and no out-of-hours surcharge: a night, weekend or bank holiday call-out is priced the same as a weekday one.
A sealant kit is a get-you-home measure for a small hole in the tread. It will not seal a sidewall cut, a large hole or a blowout, and the sealant has to be cleaned out before the tyre can be properly repaired to BS AU 159, so treat it as temporary and have the tyre looked at soon after.
No. A blowout destroys the casing and a bulge means the internal structure has already failed, so neither can be made safe. We fit a new tyre on the same visit and check the wheel rim before it goes back on.
Both. Emergency tyre fitting is the same call-out: if the tyre cannot be repaired, the fitter carries emergency tyres in common car, SUV, 4x4 and van sizes and fits a new one where the car is, balanced on the van, usually 20 to 30 minutes once we are with you. For a less common size we confirm on the phone that it is on board before anyone sets off.
Cars, SUVs, 4x4s, electric vehicles and vans. We do not work on caravans, trailers, motorbikes, lorries or HGVs.
